Federal Immigration Litigation Clinic Receives Honorable Mention at AALS Annual Conference on Clinical Education for ‘Somali 92’ Case
The University of Minnesota Law School’s Federal Immigration Litigation Clinic, part of the James H. Binger Center for New Americans, received an honorable mention for the Clinical Legal Education Association’s (CLEA) Award for Excellence in a Public Interest Case or Project at the Association of American Law Schools (AALS) 2024 Conference on Clinical Legal Education in St. Louis earlier this month.
Minnesota Law Celebrates the Class of 2024 at 136th Commencement Ceremony
The University of Minnesota Law School celebrated its 136th commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 11 at Northrop.
More than 1,500 family, friends, loved ones, faculty, and staff joined the graduating Class of 2024 on a sunny Saturday morning to cheer on the 230 J.D. candidates, 30 LL.M. candidates, three S.J.D. candidates, and four Masters of Patent Law candidates, who crossed the stage and were awarded their degrees.

Immigration and Human Rights Clinic Wins Asylum for Afghan Woman
In 2021, Saima Fazli was one of more than 124,000 people evacuated from Afghanistan as part of Operation Allies Refuge. Fleeing Taliban rule, Fazli and her family came to the United States. While her mother and siblings qualified to be on her father’s Special Immigration Visa, Fazli was just a few months over the cutoff age of 21 to be included.

Cinema Libre Studio premiered the film "I Am Gitmo" on May 2, 2024, at the Writers Guild Theater in Beverly Hills, CA. The evening celebrated the launch of the CLSNOW streaming platform and included the presentation of the CLSNOW Human Rights Award to Minnesota Law Professor Fionnuala Ní Aoláin, Honorary King's Counsel, Regents Professor, Robina Chair in Law, Public Policy, and Society, and faculty director of the Human Rights Center.
David Lamb ’24 and Prof. Megan Walsh Testify in Support of Domestic Violence Bill
In January of 2023, the Gun Violence Prevention Clinic began researching systemic issues that result in domestic violence (DV) abusers illegally retaining firearms. The Clinic interviewed dozens of stakeholders and DV researchers to illuminate the flaws in the state’s existing processes for separating offenders as well as those under DV restraining from their guns.
Visiting Assistant Professor of Law Elizabeth Bentley Appointed to the Minnesota Court of Appeals
Governor Tim Walz announced the appointment of Elizabeth Bentley, visiting assistant professor of law, to the Minnesota Court of Appeals on Tuesday, April 30. She will depart the Law School in August to begin her service on the bench.
