Degrees: B.S. in Electrical Engineering; M.S. in Patent Law
What are some things that you liked in the M.S. in Patent Law program at the UMN Law School?
You’ll learn almost everything that you need when you do actual work and be prepared to be a good patent practitioner. Also, you will be involved with so many valuable insights in the IP field. Be especially excited about the patent seminar course, where virtuosos in the IP world are invited to present their experience to students.
Enrolling in this program puts you in a blessed environment to meet many people. Don’t miss the chance to connect with classmates in the program, law school students, faculty, adjunct professors…amazing people from diverse backgrounds.
What advice do you have for future students who are in or interested in the program?
This is a great program for a range of careers, even for those outside the patent world. Not all of my classmates have ended up as a patent agent, but all of them have been implementing the things learned from the program into their career in legal, corporate, and research areas. And you too, will find your way.

The MS Patent Law degree program and its test preparation service helped me to pass the USPTO Registration Examination on the first attempt. The practical and procedural information I learned will continue to enable my success beyond the registration examination and into future professional opportunities.

In the MS Patent Law degree program, I had a chance to work on real projects with practicing patent attorneys and receive informative and educational feedback, which I wouldn't have had otherwise. In my patent field placement course, I worked directly on real patent matters with patent lawyers from an S&P 500 company, a global patent law firm, and a local patent law firm. In my patent Capstone course, I worked on a project for a multinational food, snack, and beverage corporation. And as a student intern for University Technology Commercialization, I worked on patent searching matters.

I highly recommend the Patent Internship experience, where I gained a better understanding of patent prosecution beyond what I learned in the classroom. I will hold on to this experience and learning for the rest of my career.
