Karen Lundquist

Asst Professor of ESL & Legal Skills

Karen has been teaching the Legal Writing and Legal Skills courses in the LL.M. program at the University of Minnesota Law School since 2011. She teaches other courses at the law school such as the LEAD program, Judicial Observation, and International Employment Law; supervises the Pro Bono Program for the LL.M. students; and provides academic support for both LL.M. and international JD students.

Karen is a licensed attorney in Minnesota and graduatedĀ cum laudeĀ from William Mitchell College of Law in 2005. Before attending law school, Karen lived in Rome, Italy from 1990 to 2001, where she taught English as a second language, wrote course materials for teaching English, and worked as a free-lance translator. She has also lived and studied abroad in Santiago, Chile and Guanajuato, Mexico, and speaks Italian and Spanish. Her experiences as a student of languages (her undergraduate major was Italian and Latin) and as a foreigner living abroad provide her a unique perspective on the challenges that international LL.M. students face. Karen authored a book,Ā Legal Writing and Legal Skills for Foreign LL.M. Students, which was published in 2017 by West Academic Publishing. In her free time, Karen enjoys reading, practicing yoga and hanging out with her three Chihuahuas.
