As an undergrad, I was introduced to the idea of patents as a part of the inventive process and how they can protect new inventions. I chose the MSPL program to gain a strong understanding of patent law and how to work in the field without a law degree.

I chose the MSPL program to gain knowledge in the field of patent law and patent prosecution. The MSPL program will help me to bring a unique perspective to scientific research and allows me to pursue opportunities in all aspects of scientific innovation.

I worked as a Patent Docketing Specialist for years and had the privilege of working with Patent Attorneys and Paralegals regarding discrepancies in patent prosecution documents, while also being exposed to automated technology. This pivotal experience instilled a desire to search for more knowledge in the field of patent law and legal procedures. I joined the MSPL program to fulfill my passion and to master the science and technological background of patent law.

Working in a research lab for two years allowed me to experience innovation and research firsthand which piqued my interest in understanding IP and its intersection with the advancement of science. The UMN MSPL program has equipped me with the skills to seek the strongest IP protection while allowing me to explore exciting new technologies across all scientific fields.
