Invest in Future Lawyers

Thanks to the vision and generosity of our supporters, Minnesota Law continues to open doors for the next generation of legal leaders. In 2024-25, transformative gifts established seven new scholarship funds that ensure our students are prepared to thrive in their chosen careers.

Barbara D’Aquila ’80 created the Barbara J. D’Aquila ’80 Scholarship. To honor her roots and values and to support a new generation of students, the scholarship was created to support students from Northern Minnesota or those with a demonstrated commitment to defending the values embodied in the Constitution.

The law firm of Carlson Caspers, along with founding partner Phil Caspers ’88, created the Carlson Caspers Scholarship. This endowed scholarship will support students with a STEM background who are interested in pursuing a career in intellectual property law.

In appreciation for the rigorous legal training he received, the impact it had on his life and career, and desire to make law school more affordable and support students who have an interest in estate planning, tax law, or constitutional law, Gordon ’65 and Janet Johnson have created the Gordon V. and Janet L. Johnson Law Scholarship.

The Governor James J. Blanchard ’68 Public Service Scholarship was created by Gov. James ’68 and Janet Blanchard. With an appreciation for the rising cost of education and a desire to support future leaders in public interest, this scholarship will assist students with a background in public interest or those interested in pursuing a career in public service.

Judith Dutcher ’87 and the Bentson Foundation gave to create the Judith H. Dutcher Scholarship in Law. This fund will support students, allowing them to pursue a world-class legal education without the financial burden.

Rachel Brass ’01 and Richard Foster established the new Rachel S. Brass ’01 Diversity Scholarship. This endowed scholarship enables Minnesota Law to attract and retain talented and high-caliber students with diverse backgrounds and experiences.

Organizers of the Sedona Conference established the Richard G. Braman ’78 Memorial Scholarship to honor its founder, Richard Braman ’78. This new fund will help students with a background in the performing arts, like Richard, obtain their law degree to pursue a career in intellectual property law.
