Class of 2027 - M.S. in Patent Law
Alexandra Acevedo ’27
I chose to pursue a degree in patent law to deepen my understanding of the legal system and explore how the law protects new ideas and inventions.
Post-graduation, I plan to attend law school to pursue my J.D.

After about 2 years in the semiconductor manufacturing space, I came to the conclusion that I prefer writing and researching technology over running experiments and analyzing data. Patent law was on my radar as early as high school, but I started seriously considering the patent agent track the summer going into my senior year of college; however, I decided to try industry out and gain some experience before diving into a legal field I was unfamiliar with. After the program, I'd like to work as a patent agent in the private sector (firm or company), or at a university tech transfer office.
Roxanne Ring ’27
My technical background in physics and engineering, my interest in pursuing patent law is to continue learning throughout my career and help further technological advancement while not needing to go directly into engineering and be confined to one niche space. I am a social person and hope to become a patent agent to communicate with clients about innovation and collaborate with attorneys on projects for patent prosecution. I hope to go to Law school one day to become a patent attorney to be able to go into patent litigation.
I hope to secure a position in the Twin cities or adjacent suburbs as a patent agent for the time being. My 5- year goal would to be working as a patent agent and be either looking to go back to law school or be enrolled in law school while working.

I look forward to blending both my legal experience and scientific background in food science through this program. The Master of Science in Patent Law (M.S.P.L.) degree program appealed to me because it provides students with a wide array of life and technical expertise with the tools needed to find success in patent and intellectual property law. I am excited to apply what I learn here in the M.S.P.L. program to promote continued innovation and progress.
