Now Hiring: Immigration Litigation and Advocacy Fellow
The University of Minnesota Law School is seeking applicants who are recent law graduates for an Immigration Litigation and Advocacy Fellowship with the James H. Binger Center for New Americans. The fellowship will begin in August 2025 and is anticipated to be a two-year commitment based on an annual, renewable appointment, with an optional third year.
Tribute: Minnesota Law Mourns the Passing of Hon. John J. (Jack) Todd ’50
The Honorable John J. (Jack) Todd ’50, retired Minnesota Supreme Court judge, passed away on September 18, at age 97. He was born in South St. Paul, Minnesota, and attended Cretin High School. He started college, but soon after joined the Navy where he served for nearly two years. He returned to Minnesota after World War II and enrolled at the College of St. Thomas where he planned to study medicine but opted for pre-law.

Minnesota Law Faculty Participate in ALI Workshop "The Law of Longevity" in Honor of Prof. Shen's ALI Early Career Scholars Medal
Minnesota Law Professors Francis Shen, Alexander Boni-Saenz, June Carbone, and Christopher Roberts participated in a workshop supported by the American Law Institute, "The Law of Longevity." Held at the world-renowned Salk Institute in San Diego, the workshop was in honor of Professor Shen's receipt of the ALI Early Career Scholars Medal.
Mahmoud Ahmed Begins Master of Human Rights Program and Joins ICGC as a Fellow
Mahmoud Ahmed, Education, Community, Outreach and Research Coordinator at the James H. Binger Center for New Americans, has been named a fellow at the University of Minnesota’s Interdisciplinary Center for the Study of Global Change (ICGC). Alongside this prestigious fellowship, Ahmed has begun a Master of Human Rights (MHR) degree at the University’s Hubert H. Humphrey School of Public Affairs, in collaboration with the College of Liberal Arts.

Michelle Miller '86 Delivers the Matheson Lecture in Corporate Governance
Last week, Minnesota Law hosted the Matheson Lecture in Corporate Governance with Michelle Miller ’86, former vice president, chief counsel, employment law at Medtronic. Miller spoke on the topic of corporate decision-making regarding public statements in an age of influence by and expectations of social media, employees, customers and institutional investors.
Alumni News: Gov. Walz Appoints Minnesota Law Alum Heather Pipenhagen '96 to the 10th Judicial District
Governor Tim Walz has appointed Heather Pipenhagen '96 as a district court judge in the 10th Judicial District. Pipenhagen will replace Judge Jonathan N. Jasper for the seat chambered in Sherburne County. Pipenhagen is an assistant county attorney in the Dakota County Attorney’s Office. She serves on the Minnesota County Attorney Association’s Appellate Advisory Committee and on the Supreme Court Advisory Committee on the Rules Governing Proceedings under the Minnesota Commitment and Treatment Act.
