Carolyn Iverson Schroeder, a longtime friend of the University of Minnesota Law School, passed away July 25 at age 93. She and her late husband, Clint Schroeder ’55, gave generously to the Law School during their lifetimes.

Professor Fionnuala Ní Aoláin KC (Hons), Regents Professor, Robina Chair in Law, Public Policy, and Society, and faculty director of the Human Rights Center, joined several notable speakers to deliver a keynote address at Trinity College Dublin, as part of the national Irish celebration commemorating the 250th anniversary of the birth of Daniel O'Connell, who championed Catholic emancipation.
Professors Susan Wolf and Francis Shen, and Co-Authors, Publish Results on Portable MRI Brain Research Survey in Neuroethics
Professors Susan Wolf and Francis Shen, along with co-authors Professor Frances Lawrenz and Dr. Molly K. Madzelan, have published the results of a new NIH-funded survey that finds the U.S. public is ready to participate in brain research using emerging portable magnetic resonance imaging (pMRI) technology. These smaller and highly portable scanners will allow brain research in remote settings that were previously inaccessible, enabling researchers to understand the full range of human brain function and disease.
In Immigration Law Field Placements, Students Get a Crash Course in Practical and People Skills
As an undergraduate at Whitman College in Washington, Meg Keiser ’25 minored in Spanish and then interned at an immigration law firm her senior year. From that moment on, she knew she wanted to work in the field. While looking at options for law school, the Minnesota native was drawn to Minnesota Law due primarily to the James H. Binger Center for New Americans.
Six Minnesota Law Students Selected as Stevens Foundation Fellows
Six Minnesota Law students have been selected as 2025 John Paul Stevens Foundation Fellows, which funds full-time summer internships in public interest law. Fellows are selected on the basis of a keen interest in public interest and social justice law, as well as academic achievement.
Professor Alexander Boni-Saenz Elected to the American Law Institute
Professor Alexander Boni-Saenz has been elected as a member of the American Law Institute (ALI). ALI elects individuals who reflect the excellence and diversity of today's legal profession. ALI's membership comprises eminent judges, lawyers, and law professors from all areas of the United States and numerous foreign countries, selected based on their professional achievements and demonstrated interest in advancing the law.

Professor Fionnuala Ní Aoláin FBA, KC (Hons), has been elected a Fellow of the British Academy, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the humanities and social sciences.
Tribute: Minnesota Law Mourns the Passing of Hon. Richard C. Luis ’74
The Honorable Richard C. “Rick” Luis ’74, of Little Canada, passed away on June 28, at age 79. He was born in Maryland. His family later moved to Minnesota when his father became principal at Shakopee High School.
