Professor Jill Hasday, Distinguished McKnight University Professor and Centennial Professor in Law, has won multiple awards for her book, We the Men: How Forgetting Women's Struggles for Equality Perpetuates Inequality (2024 Oxford University Press).

Tribute: Minnesota Law Mourns the Passing of Michael F. Cromett ’78

Michael F. Cromett ’78 passed away on May 21, at age 70. His entire professional career was devoted to the Ramsey County Public Defender and the State Appellate Public Defender offices (1978-2013), where he practiced his beliefs and protected the rights of countless clients charged with or convicted of crimes who could not afford an attorney.

Dean William McGeveran Interviewed on Terms of Service Podcast

Dean William McGeveran, William S. Pattee Professor of Law, had an in-depth conversation on the Terms of Service podcast with host Mary Camacho about data privacy and privacy law. McGeveran discussed how privacy law has (and has not) kept pace with technology. He emphasized that there are limits to what individual consent means, compared U.S. and EU privacy practices, and offered examples of what meaningful regulation could look like in an era of AI and data saturation.

When Learning Meets Purpose: The Making of a Future Litigator

Recent Minnesota Law grad, Ryan Clemmons ’25, has always been driven to serve others. After earning her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan, she jumped into public service, starting as a field organizer for political campaigns. “We were organizing phone banks, canvases, and talking to people about their voting rights,” she says. “It was a form of advocacy.”

Tribute: Minnesota Law Mourns the Passing of Hon. James D. Smith

The Honorable James D. Smith, adjunct professor at the University of Minnesota Law School, passed away on April 29. Smith was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Maryland and a juris doctor degree from Duke University. He later served on Duke Law’s Board of Visitors.
