U.S. Supreme Court Preview Panel – 2026-27 Term

What will the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2026–27 term mean for constitutional law, individual rights, and the balance of power between states and the federal government? Join Minnesota Law on October 5 at 12:15 pm for a preview of the cases and issues poised to shape the Court’s upcoming term.

Minnesota Law faculty will unpack several of the term’s most consequential cases, exploring the legal questions before the justices and what their decisions could mean beyond the courtroom. The panel will examine Montoya Palacios v. Liggins, which asks whether people who successfully challenge their civil immigration detention can recover attorney’s fees under the Equal Access to Justice Act, and Viramontes v. Cook County, a major Second Amendment case involving whether the Constitution protects a right to possess AR-15-style semiautomatic rifles.

The discussion will also consider Suncor Energy Inc. v. County Commissioners of Boulder County, about who can bring lawsuits related to climate change, and RNC v. Mi Familia Vota, a challenge to Arizona’s proof-of-citizenship for voter registration.
