Judge Scoggin was appointed to the District Court Bench (4th District) in 2014. Currently he handles felony crimes against person and is the assistant presiding judge. Before appointment Judge Scoggin was an Assistant Hennepin County Attorney heading both the Appellate unit and the Criminal Division. Judge Scoggin also served as an International Prosecutor for the EU in Kosovo and worked in Jordan, Northern Macedonia and Palestine on contract with INL and USAID. Judge Scoggin served on the Advisory Committee for the Rules of Criminal Procedure and regularly teaches new judges on criminal law.
