Matthew Forbes is an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Minnesota, where he has served since 2022. He is a member of the Fraud & Public Corruption Section of the Criminal Division, and has prosecuted federal crimes involving fraud, tax, money laundering, guns, drugs, and violent crime. He has tried cases to verdict and argued appeals in the Third, Eighth, and Ninth Circuits. Prior to becoming a prosecutor, Mr. Forbes was a litigation associate at the New York law firm Debevoise & Plimpton, LLP. Earlier, Mr. Forbes clerked first for then-Chief Judge John R. Tunheim on the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota, and then for Judge Thomas I. Vanaskie on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Before law school, Mr. Forbes served on the legislative staff of Congressman Collin C. Peterson in Washington, D.C. Mr. Forbes received his law degree from Stanford Law School and a bachelor’s degree from Gustavus Adolphus College.
