Julie Hagen Showers ’88 is the Associate Vice President in the Office for Equity and Diversity at the University of Minnesota. In that role, she works with senior leaders to advance system-wide efforts to create and maintain a culture of inclusive excellence. Julie leads compliance functions including the Office of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative action, the Disability Resource Center, the Office of Business and Community Economic Development, and the Office for Conflict Resolution. In addition, she oversees OED Education and Campus Climate Initiatives.
Julie has also served as the Director of the Office for Conflict Resolution. In that role, she provided an independent resource for faculty, staff, and student employees confronting work-related conflicts. The Office provides formal and informal dispute resolution processes, including skills-building, facilitated dialogue, mediation, and arbitration.
Prior to joining the University of Minnesota, Julie was a partner at FordHarrison, a national labor and employment law firm for three years, and also served as an adjunct instructor in the Masters Program in Strategic Human Resource Management at St. Mary’s University. From 1992-2009, Julie worked at Northwest Airlines, including seven years as Vice President of Labor Relations and two years as Senior Vice President of Inflight Services. She retired from Delta Air Lines in 2009 following the successful merger and operational integration of the two companies.
