John D. Ostergren is a Ph.D. environmental scientist and lawyer with over 20 years of global business experience spanning all aspects of corporate sustainability.

Most recently, John served as Chief Sustainability Officer for a London-based FTSE-100 global engineering technology firm leading sustainability strategy, operations, reporting and government affairs. Previously, he led the commercial legal team for a green-tech startup through IPO and served as Associate General Counsel and EHS Director at 3M. Before joining 3M, John practiced at Dorsey & Whitney in Minneapolis after earning his J.D. at Stanford University, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Stanford Environmental Law Journal.    

John’s teaching and scholarship interests center on the role and regulation of businesses and markets to deliver environmental and social outcomes.
