Coryn Johnson

MN Habeas Project Staff Attorney, James H. Binger Center for New Americans

Coryn Johnson ’24 is a staff attorney for the Minnesota Habeas Project, a collaborative initiative working to expand access to habeas representation for Minnesotans unlawfully detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

In response to escalating ICE detentions in Minnesota, the Minnesota Habeas Project was launched in early 2026 through a partnership among a collective of nonprofit legal service providers, law school clinics, and law firms, including The Advocates for Human Rights, the Binger Center, and the National Immigration Project. In her role, Johnson supports volunteer attorneys, contributes to the development of training and resource materials, and helps expand the Project’s capacity to meet this urgent need.

While a student at Minnesota Law, Johnson participated in the Federal Immigration Litigation Clinic, where she represented immigrants in high-impact federal court litigation. She previously practiced detained removal defense with Prisoners' Legal Services of New York. Johnson brings significant experience as an advocate for individuals navigating the complex intersection of criminal and immigration law.
