The Human Rights Center Welcomes Mandela Washington Fellows

The Human Rights Center welcomes Nathan Zindikilani and Yuh Esthel Cheah from the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders as non-resident visiting fellows this semester. In August, the Human Rights Center were thrilled to host Nathan and Esthel in residence in Minnesota, where they had the opportunity to gain hands-on professional development and leadership skills, and meet in-person with HRC staff, students, affiliates, and partners.

Tribute: Minnesota Law Mourns the Passing of Hon. William P. Zuger ’72

The Honorable William P. Zuger ’72, passed away on August 8, at age 78. Zuger was a 1964 graduate of Bismarck (N.D.) High School, attended Carleton College, and graduated from the University of Minnesota. He went on to earn a J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1972.

Tribute: Minnesota Law Mourns the Passing of Hon. Frederick J. Casey ’67

The Honorable Frederick J. Casey ’67, passed away on August 10, at age 83. Casey was born in Brainerd where he attended Washington High School. He graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead in 1964 and was a 1967 graduate of the University of Minnesota Law School.

After law school, Casey began his law practice in Brainerd until 1993, when he was appointed District Court Judge for Crow Wing County. He served there until his retirement in 2008.

Prof. Alan Rozenshtein Named Senior Visiting Fellow at the Institute for Law and AI 

Prof. Alan Rozenshtein has been named a senior visiting fellow at the Institute for Law and AI (LawAI).  LawAI is an independent think tank that researches and advises on the legal challenges posed by artificial intelligence, in the hopes that sound legal analysis will promote security, welfare, and the rule of law.

Rozenshtein is an associate professor of Law at the University of Minnesota Law School, research director at Lawfare, a nonresident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, and a term member at the Council on Foreign Relations.

Professor Fionnuala Ní Aoláin Delivers Keynote at Trinity College in Honor of the 250th Anniversary of the Birth of Daniel O'Connell

Professor Fionnuala Ní Aoláin KC (Hons), Regents Professor, Robina Chair in Law, Public Policy, and Society, and faculty director of the Human Rights Center, joined several notable speakers to deliver a keynote address at Trinity College Dublin, as part of the national Irish celebration commemorating the 250th anniversary of the birth of Daniel O'Connell, who championed Catholic emancipation.
