Assistant Dean of Experiential Education Mitchell E. Zamoff, J. Stewart and Mario McClendon Professor in Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution, has received the University of Minnesota’s 2024-25 Award for Outstanding Contributions to Graduate and Professional Education. This honor is awarded to exceptional candidates nominated by their colleges for excellence in graduate and professional education.

The Business Advancement Center for Health (BACH) at the University of Minnesota's Carlson School of Management successfully hosted the 6th Annual Interdisciplinary Health Data Competition. This competition brought together students from various disciplines to analyze data and explore real-world healthcare challenges.
Minnesota Law Environmental Moot Court Team Competes at Jeffrey Miller National Environmental Law Moot Court Competition at Pace University
For the second consecutive year, three Minnesota Law students excelled at the Jeffrey Miller National Environmental Law Moot Court Competition at Pace University’s Elisabeth Haub School of Law. The competition was held in White Plains, NY, from February 20 to 22, 2025. This year’s team included Elise Ashby ’25, Morgan Christen ’25, and Kasey Sullivan ’25. The team reached the quarterfinal rounds, a tremendous accomplishment given that 54 teams competed.
Minnesota Law Wins Midwest Regional National Patent Application Drafting Competition
The University of Minnesota Law School is the Midwest Regional winner of the 2025 National Patent Application Drafting Competition, hosted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The team emerged victorious in a highly competitive field and secured its place in the upcoming National Finals at USPTO headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia.
Prof. Richard Painter Testifies Before the House of Representatives Committee on Natural Resources
Professor Richard Painter, S. Walter Richey Professor of Corporate Law, testified at an oversight hearing earlier this week before the House of Representatives Committee on Natural Resources Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, "Full Blast: Contrasting Momentum in the Space Mining Economy to the Terrestrial Mining Regulatory Morass." Painter testified on various issues, from conflicts of interest to financial disclosures, the role of federal employees versus private citizens, and the ethics of a space mining program.
Tribute: Minnesota Law Mourns the Passing of Hon. Patrick Diamond ’86
The Honorable Patrick Diamond ’86, passed away on February 9, at age 64. Diamond was born in Hudson, Wis., and attended St. Thomas Academy and Hamline University before entering the University of Minnesota Law School. He was the research and note editor for the Minnesota Law Review. He went on to clerk for a federal judge in the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals and then served as Hennepin County deputy attorney from 1992 to 2012 for both Mike Freeman and Amy Klobuchar.

Can you share a bit about your background? Where you’re from, where did you go to undergrad, and where did you work over the summer or where will you work this summer?
Absolutely! I came to Minnesota Law from a town in Northern Arizona called Flagstaff, a mountain town in the high desert. I went to undergrad at the University of Arizona in Tucson. This past summer I worked remotely as a litigation intern for a small nonprofit called Legal Impact for Chickens, where I did animal welfare work.
