The View from Washington: The Politics of Tariffs
Law firms play an outsized role in international trade and investment, currently threatened by the Trump Administration’s on-again-off-again tariff policies. What do these policies mean for lawyers advising multinational firms sourcing product components from China, small- and medium-sized firms importing commodities from Canada and Mexico, and local retail and hospitality firms dependent on foreign tourists coming from various countries branded by the Trump Administration as trade “cheats” that have “robbed” US workers for too long? This continuing legal education (CLE) event features a panel with an international trade law academic and practitioner discussing the origins of these policies, prospects for their continued volatility, and practical steps for lawyers trying to manage both for clients. This CLE event will vet current legal issues for lawyers guiding clients through murky trade and tariff policy territory.
