Quintin Bassett ’26

Plymouth, MN | B.S. Physics, University of Minnesota Twin Cities

After completing my bachelor’s degree in physics, I wanted to continue in the STEM field without the hyper-specialization of a Ph.D. I went on to work at Boston Scientific, where I collaborated with engineers across various disciplines. Working there cemented my interest in a multidisciplinary career and inspired me to pursue an M.S. in Patent Law, allowing me to work with innovative science and a wide range of technologies.

Being in the engineering field and working on scientific papers, I came to know the process of filing a patent after an invention. Moving to Minneapolis, I realized that the twin cities are known for strong biomedical companies and I found myself interested in serving in patent law counsel for these companies.

Isabella Korzilius ’26

St. Paul, MN | B.S. Aerospace Engineering

I spent my undergraduate career in Saint Louis, MO, studying aerospace engineering. I worked in the Space Systems Research Lab developing a cube satellite with a mission to compare human and autonomous communications. Additionally, I was a researcher with SCALE studying the effect of heavy iron radiation on microelectronics.

Kylie Mondloch ’26

Through my undergraduate research, I discovered how much I enjoy exploring and understanding science. At the same time, I realized that a traditional lab career wasn’t the right fit for me. That realization led me to patent law – a field that excites me because it allows me to stay closely connected to scientific innovation while working outside a laboratory setting. Outside of the academic setting, I enjoy being active, watching/playing sports and reading!

Amy Paulson ’26

Eden Prairie, MN | Ph.D. Molecular Pharmacology and Therapeutics, M.S. Pharmacology, B.S. Chemistry and Psychology, University of Minnesota

I obtained my Ph.D. in Molecular Pharmacology and Therapeutics from the University of Minnesota with broad expertise in cancer research, pharmacogenomics, computational approaches to understand disease mechanisms and develop therapeutic strategies, including applications in oncology and neurodegenerative diseases.

I joined the M.S.P.L. program to combine my scientific background with legal training, preparing me to translate innovative research into real-world applications. I am excited to contribute to the intellectual property field, helping inventors and teams protect and advance technologies at the intersection of medicine, biology, and law.

Susan Strom ’26

North Oaks, MN | J.D., M.S. Candidate in Food Science, University of Minnesota

I look forward to blending both my legal experience and scientific background in food science through this program. The Master of Science in Patent Law (M.S.P.L.) degree program appealed to me because it provides students with a wide array of life and technical expertise with the tools needed to find success in patent and intellectual property law. I am excited to apply what I learn here in the M.S.P.L. program to promote continued innovation and progress.
