Law schools have been enhancing their experiential education (ExEd) programs ever since the ABA implemented its six-credit ExEd requirement in 2014. The majority of law schools now have leaders specifically charged with overseeing their ExEd programs, including field placements and simulation courses, in addition to clinics. But while there are conferences that focus on components of ExEd, there has been no dedicated space for ExEd leaders to come together to build community, share best practices, and collaborate on ways to enhance the student experience. This workshop is intended to help fill this void.

The time is right for the ExEd community to come together. The NextGen bar exam will begin in 2026 to assess test takers’ proficiency in lawyering skills in addition to their knowledge of substantive law. The ABA is considering an increase to its ExEd credit requirement. And a growing body of empirical data have identified the critical skills that law school graduates need to be successful in practice. Come join law school deans, associate deans, ExEd leaders, and clinicians this summer in Minneapolis as we focus on the role of ExEd in a modern legal education.

The workshop is free of charge and complimentary meals will be provided throughout.

A welcome reception will be hosted the evening of Wednesday, July 9 for those arriving to Minneapolis before the workshop commences the morning of Thursday, July 10.
