General Data Protection Regulation in Context
This course provides a comprehensive exploration of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and locates it within its broader European Union (EU) legal and policy context. It examines how the EU’s fundamental right to data protection, as set out in the Charter of the Fundamental Rights of the EU, is expressed and how it is influenced and challenged by factors such as the data market economy and new technologies. In doing so, it accounts for other European Union law developments in the field, such as the European Health Data Space Regulation and the AI Act, as well as the forthcoming GDPR Procedural Regulation, and perspectives of other legal orders, notably the Council of Europe.
