Everything You Wanted to Know About the Census and Wanted to Ask
Civic Scholars Initiative
Join the Civic Scholars Initiative and Professor David Schultz to learn about the U.S. Census.
The US Constitution mandates a decennial census of the population and subsequent redistricting afterwards. This talk explores three topics: One, it examines the history of the census, how it is done, what we learn from it, and how it is then used in redistricting. Two, the talk also examines the legal issues surrounding the census, keying in on litigation regarding redistricting and voting rights. Three, the talk looks at the 2020 census and what it means for the 2022 elections and politics.
