Prof. Megan Walsh Interviewed by KARE 11 News About a St. Paul Murder Suspect Obtaining a Weapon
Professor Megan Walsh, director of the Gun Violence Prevention Clinic, was interviewed by KARE 11 News about the ability of a suspect with a lengthy criminal record who killed a St. Paul artist in a random shooting to obtain a gun. The suspect was subsequently shot and killed by police who pursued him. Police have not said how the suspect obtained the weapon, given his criminal history and felony restriction on having a firearm. Prof. Walsh said “That's where we get into problems across the country. Firearms are too easy to access, too easy to purchase.” She described Minnesota’s gun laws as “pretty good” and said she was pleased to see the state legislature bolster them over the past few years, including the passage of a red flag or Extreme Risk Protection Order law.
