Prof. Paul Vaaler Interviewed By CBS Minnesota on SVB Demise and It's Impact on Banking
Professor Paul Vaaler was interviewed on CBS Minnesota in regards to the recent fall of SVB, and how may impact banking as a whole. When asked whether smaller banks are less safe than bigger banks, Prof. Vaaler responded, "I think that the short answer to that is no. I think what's happened in the last few weeks with the demise of Silicon Valley Bank, Signature Bank... we've got a more focused eye on regional banks that is not the very largest banks, Wells Fargo, maybe J.P. Morgan, nor the smallest banks, like Cannon Falls State Bank." He noted that the banks of interest in a situation such as the current one are "those banks in the middle, ones that have multiple units, that may serve several states, but there's some geographic compactness to them, such as Silicon Valley Bank which served northern California and the Bay area. Or maybe they have an industry specific focus, maybe it's in high tech."
