Prof. Paul Vaaler Quoted in the Star Tribune About Large Shareholder Voting Against Selling Locally-Based Brands to Czech Firm
Professor Paul Vaaler, John and Bruce Mooty Chair in Law and Business, was quoted in the Star Tribune about one of the largest shareholders in Anoka-based Vista Outdoor voting against selling its ammunition brands to Prague-based Czechoslovak Group. Shareholders meet next week to vote on the $2.1 billion deal to sell the Kinetic Group, which includes the Remington and Speer brands. Proxy advisory firm Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS) is recommending a “no” vote at next week’s meeting. Prof. Vaaler said it’s not surprising to see heavy lobbying efforts. “It’s about lobbying and shareholders, how you communicate with shareholders and particularly institutional shareholders regarding the abstention recommendation from ISS, because ISS can be really important.”
