Prof. Shen’s Research on President Trump Featured on Politico

Professor Francis Shen’s research on the relationship between war casualties and support for Donald Trump was featured in Politico Magazine. The recently released research paper, co-authored with Boston University political scientist Doug Kriner, examined the relationship between states’ and counties’ casualty rates in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and their electoral support for Trump. Shen found a significant correlation between war casualty rates and Trump votes, and argues that three states key to Trump’s victory—Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin—might have swung the other way if they’d had even modestly lower casualty rates.
