Prof. Francis Shen Interviewed for Research Study on the Ethics of Portable MRIs

Professor Francis Shen, Solly Robins Distinguished Research Fellow, was interviewed by Relias Media about a research study on the development of new portable magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technologies that allows study investigators to conduct field-based research in remote settings. Professor Susan Wolf, Regents Professor and McKnight Presidential Professor of Law, Medicine & Public Policy, was also an author of the study that showed a need to provide ethical and legal guidance for research with these new types of MRI machines. The authors developed recommendations for portable MRI technology, including ethical concerns, and identified 15 core issues to be addressed. Prof. Shen said, “We were especially concerned about portable MRI research in community settings, outside the hospital.”
