Prof. Vaaler Comments on WCCO Radio About Cruz Iowa Caucus Victory and Ethanol Industry
Professor Paul M. Vaaler commented on WCCO radio on the implications of Texas Senator Ted Cruz's victory in the Iowa Republican Party caucuses for the ethanol industry. Cruz's victory with a 28% plurality is significant because he has been an opponent of the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) supporting and subsidizing ethanol production and use. Iowa is the largest ethanol producing state in the US with Minnesota in fourth place. Cruz's victory in Iowa last Monday may indicate a weakened ethanol industry lobby politically. His victory also saw an immediate drop in the share price of several large ethanol producers, including Decatur, Illinois-based Archer, Daniels, Midland. Professor Vaaler comments on current business and legal issues each Wednesday morning on the WCCO Morning News with Dave Lee.
