Prof. Kirtley Quoted in Boston Globe on First Amendment Privilege for 'Hacktivist'
Professor Jane Kirtley was quoted in a Boston Globe article about Gregg Housh, founder of online news site Rebel News and a member of activist group Anonymous, and his plans to visit hacktivist chat rooms to report on the participants' planned activities. He said he will promise them anonymity. Kirtley pointed out that under 1972 U.S. Supreme Court precedent, "journalists enjoy no First Amendment privilege not to testify before a grand jury about criminal activity they observed, even if they had promised confidentiality to their sources."
