Prof. Jane Kirtley Quoted in New York Times About Filmmaker That Secretly Recorded Supreme Court Justices
Professor Jane Kirtley was quoted in the New York Times about the tactics of Lauren Windsor, a documentary filmmaker who secretly recorded Supreme Court Justices Roberts and Alito at a recent gala event. Posing as a Catholic conservative, her conversation with Justice Samuel Alito resulted in him saying that compromise in America between the left and right might be impossible and he agreed with the view that the nation should return to a place of godliness. His comments contrasted with those of Chief Justice John Roberts. The tactics used to obtain the comments have come under fire. Prof. Kirtley said, “I think it’s fair to say that most ethical journalists deplore those kind of techniques. How do you expect your readers or your viewers to trust you if you’re getting your story through deception?”
