Prof. Kirtley Comments on UMN Crime Alert Policy Change in Pioneer Press

Professor Jane Kirtley was quoted in a Pioneer Press article about the University's new policy to omit race and other descriptors of suspects from crime alerts under most circumstances. Kirtley was asked whether this kind of policy was similar to that used by many news organizations. She replied that "[The University public safety officials] are not a news organization. They are the public safety and security office of a university." She added, "I'm in favor of more information rather than less information."
