Prof. Jill Hasday Quoted in Yahoo News About False Claims Regarding the Take Pride Act Signed by Gov. Walz

Professor Jill Hasday, Distinguished McKnight University Professor and Centennial Professor in Law, was quoted in Yahoo News about false claims that Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, newly chosen running mate of Vice President Kamala Harris, signed a bill protecting pedophiles. The legislation, the Take Pride Act, was signed in 2023 and included a measure that removed a line from the Minnesota human rights law saying pedophilia could not be considered a sexual orientation. According to legal experts, the bill did not affect the criminal laws concerning sexual contact with a child. Prof. Hasday, who teaches family and anti-discrimination law, agreed that the state “clearly prohibits” sexual abuse of children.
