Prof. Jill Hasday Interviewed on WCCO Radio About Possible Supreme Court Reform Initiatives

Professor Jill Hasday, Distinguished McKnight University Professor and Centennial Professor in Law, was interviewed by Jordana Green and Adam Carter on WCCO Radio about possible reforms to the U.S. Supreme Court proposed by the Biden Administration. President Biden has been working with constitutional scholars to possibly pull together an initiative to enact term limits and an enforceable ethics code. Prof. Hasday said, “Polling suggests that [term limits] is a pretty popular idea ... among other things, the most usually proposed term limit would be 18 years. ... Term limits, in my view, would clearly require a Constitutional amendment which means a two-thirds vote of each house of Congress and then three-quarters of the legislatures which is 38 legislatures, so it’s not easy.” Regarding an enforceable ethics code, Prof. Hasday said, “I think an enforceable ethics code can be done by statute. There are all sorts of things the Congress could do to reign in the Supreme Court within Constitutional boundaries.”
