Law School's Clemency Program, Established by Prof. Murray, Featured in Star Tribune
The Law School's Clemency Program, established in the fall of 2014 by Professor JaneAnne Murray, was featured on the front page of the Star Tribune. The Program's students draft clemency petitions in response to President Obama's initiative, announced in April 2014, to use his clemency power on behalf of non-violent, low-level federal inmates who are serving lengthy, outdated sentences. The Program is now entering its third year, and has taught 15 students and filed 18 petitions to date. The spearhead for the article was the Program's first clemency grant: for Teresa Griffin, a Florida mother of four, who was sentenced almost 25 years ago to life imprisonment when she was 26 years old.
