Kristin Hickman
Prof. Hickman Quoted in San Francisco Chronicle on Health Care Case
Professor Kristin Hickman's thoughts on the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in King v. Burwell, concerning the Internal Revenue Service's interpretation of the Affordable Care Act, were quoted in a San Francisco Chronicle article about the case. Asked about a statement by President Obama extolling the permanence of the Affordable Care Act, Hickman described those comments as mostly "typical political hyperbole." She said a future Congress could, in fact, "substantially alter" the law as problems surface. But she said future presidents who oppose the law would be discouraged by the ruling from trying to toss out the subsidies on their own, a point of view shared by another analyst, Professor Christopher Walker of Ohio State University.
