Prof. Painter Quoted in USA Today on Public Disclosure of Government Scientific Research
Professor Richard Painter was quoted in a USA Today article on a controversy over whether the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and other federal agencies should allow prompt disclosure of scientific findings. Painter identified two problems with not publicly disclosing scientific findings: agency leaks of information benefit insiders and tippees who can use the information for securities trading, and delayed disclosure is sometimes part of agency politicization of scientific research. Painter said, "scientific information ought to be disclosed as quickly as possible to the public without restrictions."
