Prof. Richard Painter Quoted in Star Tribune Op-Ed About Matt Gaetz’s Ethics Report Release
Professor Richard Painter, Professor Richard Painter, S. Walter Richey Professor of Corporate Law, was interviewed for an op-ed in the Star Tribune about Matt Gaetz’s nomination to be attorney general and his investigation by the House Ethics Committee. Allegations included the claim that he had sex with an underage girl, used illicit drugs, accepted bribes, misused campaign funds and shared inappropriate images on the House floor. Gaetz resigned his seat after being nominated and because of that, House Speaker Mike Johnson said an ethics report will not be released. Prof. Painter said Gaetz’s early resignation may be telling. “Normally you’d hold onto your seat until you get confirmed, but [Gaetz] just resigned because he doesn’t want that report out, which means that report probably has some stuff in it that isn’t favorable.”
