Ryan Strom coaches his kids’ youth hockey and baseball teams. In his spare time, he’s also an in-house intellectual property attorney at Target, where his primary areas of responsibility are patents (particularly in the areas of data science, software engineering and architecture, supply chain, and product design) and open source software. He also provides strategic legal support for licensing initiatives, certain trademark matters and securing internally generated and acquired IP.
Before joining Target, Ryan worked at several local law firms where he honed his skills drafting and prosecuting patent and trademark applications and as a litigator. He has also worked in house for Philip Morris International in Mexico City, developing and implementing brand enforcement strategies throughout its Latin American & Canada region.
Ryan received his J.D. (’03) and M.S., Mech. Eng’g (’05) from the University of Minnesota, and a B.A. (’98) from Stanford University.
