Kiri Somermeyer is the Executive Director of the Corporate Institute, where she teaches the Business Law Clinic and oversees the Corporate Externship Program and Independent Field Placements affiliated with the Law School’s experiential education program. She also leads and supports other efforts of the Corporate Institute, including the Matheson Lecture in Corporate Governance and other events focusing on business and corporate law.
Prior to joining the Law School in 2022, Kiri was Associate General Counsel at Post Consumer Brands, headquartered in the Twin Cities. At Post, Kiri supported all aspects of the company’s business including advertising, supply chain, operations, intellectual property, insurance, contracts, international business, and general regulatory compliance. She was a leader of critical company projects including DE&I efforts and enterprise risk management work.
Earlier in her career, Kiri clerked for Judge Kevin G. Ross on the Minnesota Court of Appeals. She then practiced law as an Associate at Faegre Baker Daniels, where she concentrated on litigation and regulatory matters for food and agriculture companies from pre-suit investigation through trial and appeal.
Kiri received her B.A. from Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota, with election to Phi Beta Kappa. She received her J.D. from the University of Iowa College of Law, Order of the Coif. She spent her third year of law school as a visiting student at the University of Minnesota.
Kiri is a committed volunteer and pro bono attorney with a number of Twin Cities organizations including the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota, Volunteer Lawyers Network (VLN), and LegalCORPS. She is Co-Chair of the Minnesota State Bar Association Access to Justice Committee, and on the Board of Directors of VLN.
