Interim Dean William McGeveran, Director of Academic and Bar Success Kim Ronning, and Prof. Carol Chomsky Interviewed by Minnesota Lawyer about the Future of the Bar Exam

Interim Dean William McGeveran, Director of Academic and Bar Success Kim Ronning, and Professor Carol Chomsky were interviewed by Minnesota Lawyer about NextGen, the new bar exam set to debut in 2026. Interim Dean McGeveran assembled a working group at Minnesota Law to plan for NextGen. Professor Ronning said, “We’re in the information-collecting stages of looking at potential places in our curriculum where it would be appropriate to integrate some NextGen features or some NextGen prep or question forms.” Professor Chomsky described how the new exam might differ: “The bar (current) exam asks you to know the answer right away without looking it up,” she said. “But what lawyers do is they have a sense of a landscape of legal topics and issues and how to analyze problems that clients may have. And then they research and try to figure out what’s the law that affects this.”
