From the Dean

Engaged, world-class, collaborative. Welcome to the University of Minnesota Law School!

William McGeveran

Here, you will find a student body brimming with talent and energy, faculty who are both brilliant scholars and committed teachers, a rich curriculum with abundant experiential opportunities, and an extensive global network of accomplished alumni. From public interest to corporate law, immigration reform to criminal justice, international to IP and technology law—and everything in between—we offer a top-notch blend of theory, policy, and practice courses. The Law School’s small class size and an 8:1 student-to-faculty ratio ensure that students can work closely with faculty and benefit from their mentorship.

Our experiential opportunities begin with our pioneering and unique Law in Practice course, which provides hands-on practice in the first year. Our clinical education program is one of the largest and oldest in the country, complemented by a wealth of externships and skills courses. At Minnesota Law, you have the resources of a Big 10 university in a vibrant and diverse urban setting. Here, you will find courts at every level, law firms, Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, and nonprofits—all a short light-rail ride away from your classes in Mondale Hall.

We are proud of the rigorous education we provide. Our students graduate ready to be effective and thoughtful attorneys who will make their mark on their communities, our nation, and the world. We are just as proud that we achieve all this, together, while maintaining a collaborative, close-knit community and honoring our commitment to student wellness and balance. You will be both challenged and supported at Minnesota Law, and find lifelong friends and colleagues along the way.

I encourage you to browse our website and schedule a visit to learn more about the engaged and accomplished community that is the University of Minnesota Law School. We hope you join us!

Sincerely,
