Professor Fionnuala Ní Aoláin Interviewed in New York Times about U.S. Plans to Repatriate a Family of 10 from Camps in Syria

Professor Fionnuala Ní Aoláin was interviewed in the New York Times about the United States' hopes to repatriate a family of 10 from camps in Syria. A Kurdish-led militia that is battling the Islamic State has been holding a mother and nine of her children for several years, the New York Times reports.

Ní Aoláin interviewed one of the teenage boys from this family on her official visit to the camps in Syria this summer in her capacity as the UN Special Rapporteur on counterterrorism and human rights. She also published a United Nations report after her visit to Syria that portrays the policy of “the forced arbitrary separation of hundreds of adolescent boys” from their mothers as a systematic violation of human rights.
