Prof. Soper Discusses St. Paul/Minneapolis Archdiocese Bankruptcy on MPR News

Professor Chris Soper spoke on MPR News about the ongoing bankruptcy of the St. Paul and Minneapolis Archdiocese. Soper explained one of the contentious issues in the case: whether non-debtor entities such as parishes and insurance companies can benefit from the bankruptcy discharge sought by the Archdiocese. The parishes and insurance companies will help fund the Archdiocese bankruptcy plan, but in return will receive releases from future lawsuits over conduct related to the sexual abuse claims that drove the Archdiocese into bankrupcy. Said Soper, "the court could find [this part of the plan] does not comply with the bankruptcy code. It's not always easy to get a release for a non-debtor third-party."
