Prof. Dan Schwarcz's Research on Cybersecurity and the Law Highlighted in Law.com

Prof. Daniel Schwarcz and colleagues Josephine Wolff, a professor of cybersecurity policy at Tufts University, Rainer Böhme, a security and privacy professor at the University of Innsbruck; and Daniel Woods, a cybersecurity lecturer at the University of Edinburgh recently shared their findings from a joint study that reveals that lawyers may be making cybersecurity issues worse.

Law.com reports that "in taking great pains to protect confidentiality and limit litigation risk in data breach investigations, lawyers actually are making cybersecurity worse, according to new research that examines how privilege concerns are hindering companies from learning the root causes of data breaches and preventing future cyberattacks."

The four professors conducted more than 60 interviews with a broad range of cybersecurity professionals, including attorneys, forensic investigators, insurers and regulators. Their findings are included in two forthcoming papers; one soon to be published in the Harvard Journal of Law and Technology and the other set to be presented at the USENIX Security Symposium in August.
