A May 26, 2022 article in Yahoo! Finance titled Baby formula shortage raises the question of whether 'Big Formula' should be broken up discusses a recent congressional hearing concerning the shortage of infant formula.  The article quotes Professor Thomas Cotter as stating that, while "in theory . . . competition regulators could seek to divest Abbott of its dominant position," it is unlikely that Abbott or the other U.S. formula manufacturers would face liability under section 2 of the Sherman Antitrust Act, since none of them individually has monopoly power, or that the government would apply section 7 of the Clayton Act retroactively to force a divestiture.
