A panel discussion led by Sarah Rohne (Law School) with Christine Meuers ('83), Brittany Pearson ('05), Roshan Rajkumar ('00) on how to move your career forward in 2017 by building networks, improving client communications, organizing your workload, and other helpful tools. There will be an opportunity to network from 5:30 - 6:00 p.m.

University holiday

The Law School at Walter F. Mondale Hall will be closed for a Twin Cities campus University holiday from Thursday, November 24 - Friday, November 25. 

Stanford Law School Professor Rabia Belt reviewed Law and the Modern Mind Professor Susanna Blumenthal, in JOTWELL (The Journal of Things We Like (Lots)). Professor Belt surveys the key contributions of this "insightful and goundbreaking work" to the fields of historical and legal scholarship, concluding that: 

New Energy Transition Lab Clean Energy Report Predicts 5,000 New Rural Jobs

A new report from the University of Minnesota Energy Transition Lab—a strategic initiative of Institute on the Environment, supported by the Law School and the Office of the Vice President for Research—predicts that an expanding clean energy economy will create more than 5,000 jobs and over $7 billion in direct economic impact in 18 mostly rural Minnesota counties. Commencement 2017

May 13, 2017, 10:00 am to 12:00 pm

The Ceremony begins promptly at 10:00 a.m. (central time) and lasts approximately 2 hours with a reception following the ceremony until 1:00 p.m.

Students should plan to arrive at Northrop by 8:30 a.m. Tickets are not necessary and there is no guest limit for graduates. The doors will open at 9:30 a.m. to the public. 

Center for New Americans Hosts Immigration Panel

On October 13, 2016, the Center for New Americans convened local and national experts for “Immigration Nation: Writing Our Next Chapter,” a panel designed to discuss a variety of immigration-related topics. Panelists included Kalia Abiade, the advocacy director of the Center for New Community; Alondra Cano, Minneapolis City Council member representing the Ninth Ward; Karen Francois, assistant commissioner of the Office of Economic Equity and Opportunity; and Jaylani Hussein, the executive director of the Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

How Patients Are Creating Medicine’s Future: From Citizen Science to Precision Medicine

The Internet and Big Data are transforming science. Fitness trackers and wearables are streamlining the gathering of health data, while the Precision Medicine Initiative seeks to harness these data together with genomics to create personalized medicine. Meanwhile, patient groups want an active role in the development of therapies and drugs. In this final event of the Deinard Lecture Series, four panelists will discuss these dynamics and the questions they raise about medical research, privacy, data ownership, and ethics.

Lessons from Mental Health Court: Effective Strategies for Criminal Cases Involving Mental Illness

At this Robina In Conversation we will hear from four professionals who handle criminal cases with defendants who experience mental illness. Moderated by Robina Institute Practitioner and former Minnesota State Public Defender, John Stuart, the conversation will include a judge, a probation officer, a prosecutor, and a public defender, all of whom serve the Ramsey County Mental Health Court.
