Frank Guenthner ’18 Wins Burton Award for Legal Writing
The Burton Foundation has announced that Frank Guenthner ’18 is the winner of a 2018 Distinguished Legal Writing Award—one of only 15 students from U.S. law schools to be so honored. In the 19 years since the award’s creation, Law School students have received it 10 times.
International Moot Court Team Wins Competition in Mumbai
On its first trip outside U.S. borders, the Law School’s International Moot Court Competition team took first-place honors in the D.M. Harish Memorial Government Law College International Moot Court Competition, held February 9-11 in Mumbai, India. (The team, which focuses on issues in international law, typically competes in events held in the United States.) At the Mumbai event, the 19th annual D.M.
National Moot Court Competition Team Advances to Finals
The Law School's National Moot Court Competition teams achieved outstanding results at the Region 14 tournament held at Mitchell Hamline School of Law in St. Paul Nov. 16-18, winning a best brief award and sending one team on to the national finals.
Students Win IP Moot Court Regional and Local Competitions
Law School students Katie Ziomek (’17) and Kristin Emmons (’17) won a pair of recent intellectual property moot court competitions.
In a regional competition in Boston, Ziomek and Emmons defeated teams from Columbia Law School, Georgetown Law, Boston University School of Law, Suffolk Law School, and the University of New Hampshire School of Law. The victory earned them entry into a national IP moot court competition next month in Washington, D.C.

The Law School’s National Moot Court Competition teams achieved outstanding results at the Region 14 tournament at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, this past weekend, sweeping the best brief awards and sending one team on to the national finals.
Mock Trial and Moot Court Teams Hit the Road for Competitions
Mock trial and moot court teams from the Law School were extremely busy in late February, traveling near and far for national competitions.
• Two mock trial teams from the Law School spent three days participating at the regional level of the annual Texas Young Lawyers Association National Trial Competition. Both performed well, finishing 5th and 10th overall out of 24 teams.
