Meet the Class of 2026:  Eleanor Nagel-Bennett

Incoming 1L Eleanor Nagel-Bennett ’26, is originally from Kalamazoo, Michigan. She recently completed her undergraduate degree from Michigan State University.

Welcome to Minnesota Law! Can you tell us why you chose the University of Minnesota Law School?

I chose Minnesota Law because of the community. Every interaction I’ve had with faculty, staff, and students has shown me that Minnesota Law is a special place.  From my first visit, I knew Minnesota Law was the place for me.

What are you looking forward to the most about starting law school?

I’m looking forward to meeting new people and studying in the library.

Minnesota Law strives to embody a culture of equity, inclusiveness, and belonging in the classroom and in our community. What are some of the most important aspects of creating a culture where all students feel like they belong?

It’s important to recognize that nobody is going to walk into the Law School perfect. We’re all just trying our best. Providing each other with encouragement, understanding, and room to make mistakes can foster a culture of mutual respect and sense of belonging.

Are you interested in practicing in a certain area of the law? Which one and why?

I have no clue what kind of law I want to practice. I have work experience at criminal defense and family law practices, but I don’t feel drawn to any one area over another at this point.

Do you have a hobby or special interests? And/or what do you like to do during your free time?

During my free time I do yoga and pilates. I also play the New York Times word games every morning (add me to your mini leaderboard!).

Who inspires you and why?

Educators inspire me because they choose to spend their time and brain power imparting knowledge onto other people. Their jobs are often thankless, though they are some of the most influential and valuable people in our lives.

What’s the most recent book or podcast you’ve read or listened to?

Recently I've been really into the 5-4 podcast.

Finally, what or who makes a good lawyer?

A good lawyer is someone who is able to recognize when they don’t know the answer and is able to ask for help.
