Minnesota Law Performs Well at National Health Law Transactional Competition

The inaugural Joseph P. and Carol Z. Sullivan Health Law Moot Court Team had a strong showing at the National Health Law Competition, held on March 25, 2022. The team placed 4th overall, a fantastic result for the first year of the team.

The team was composed of three students with significant interest and/or background in health law.

Hannah Kalka is a 3L pursuing a Health Law Concentration. She is also a student director in the Community Partnership for Health Clinic. Before law school, she worked at Sanford Health. Sara Pistilli is a 2L with a Doctor of Pharmacy, and previously worked as a pharmacist before attending law school. She is interested in pursuing a career in health law. Jennifer Rivers is a 2L pursuing a joint degree - JD and a Master of Public Health. Prior to law school, she obtained a Master of Science Degree in Molecular Biology and Immunology at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in 2016.

The team was coached by two alums, Nolan Hudalla ‘17, and Jessica Wheeler ‘19. Hudalla and Wheeler have considerable experience in both health law and transactional law. Reflecting on the phenomenal success of the first-time team, the coaches said “the competition provided a unique opportunity for our students to develop regulatory analysis skills and practice transactional advocacy. Hannah, Sara, and Jennifer clearly demonstrated the Law School's high standard of excellence at the competition, which is a tribute to their hard work and passion for health law."
