Law School Mourns Passing of Rodger D. Young ’72

Rodger D. Young ’72 of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, passed away on Sept. 30 after a brief illness.

Young started his career at Moll, Desenberg & Bayer, Detroit's oldest firm and went on to become its youngest partner in 60 years. In 1991, he left and founded the civil litigation boutique of Young & Associates, PC. He also served on the State Bar Board of Commissioners and the Michigan Bar Foundation. He received gubernatorial appointments to the Michigan Environmental Review Board and the Michigan Transportation Commission. He was inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers in 2000.

In 2007, President George W. Bush appointed Young to serve as the U.S. Representative to the United Nations General Assembly along with former Governor of New York, George Pataki. The post carried ambassadorial rank.

Young also served on the Board of the Detroit Medical Center and was named a global ambassador to the Susan G Komen for the Cure breast cancer foundation.

Young was a generous supporter of the Law School, and started the Brig. Gen. Rodger D. Young and Dorothy L. Young Scholarship Fund. That fund has provided scholarship support to nine students since its inception.
