Law School Mourns the Passing of Former Staff Member Linda Lokensgard

Linda Lokensgard, who served as the Law School’s director of facilities and events for 28 years and retired from that post in 2017, passed away peacefully at her home in St. Paul on May 21. She was 58.

Born and raised in Virginia, Minnesota, Lokensgard was a graduate of the University of Minnesota Duluth. In her position at the Minnesota Law, she had, in the words of Dean Garry W. Jenkins, “a tremendous impact on our Law School community and was a great friend to many here.”

Throughout her life, Lokensgard was a very active person, participating in gymnastics, waterskiing, swimming, biking, running, and gardening. She was especially fond of curling, drawn to the grace and etiquette of the game. Among her many curling accomplishments were a gold medal at the Minnesota State Mixed Championship and a silver medal at the U.S. Mixed National Championship. She was a member of the international Margarita Curling Club, which took her to bonspiels (curling tournaments) throughout Europe and North America, and she served as the first female president of the St. Paul Curling Club, of which she was an honorary lifetime member.

A celebration of Lokensgard’s life will be held at a later date. Memorials are preferred to the St. Paul Curling Club.
